Lou McDonald
Lou is a wonderful mum to children Will & Violet, wife to Anthony and an OG member of PDH. She's also 30 weeks pregnant and has continued to train during & after the last 2 pregnancies at PDH. Lou highly recommends continuing to train during this time especially strength training which she believes made the birth of her second child more manageable.
LETS HEAR ABOUT LOU'S JOURNEY AT PDH
"Pregnancy is a great time to focus on strength training. Cardio sessions can be difficult and calorie needs are high so it’s a good time to focus on maintaining strength. I am certain strength training while pregnant with my second baby made the birth seamless… Its the honest truth I barely had to push! It definitely helps with recovery from birth also. At 2 years postpartum I was in better shape than pre-pregnancy", Says Lou.
• How does PDH accommodate for and support you during this phase of your training?
Every workout at PDH has adjustments to suit what I am comfortable doing. Karina keeps my needs in mind when providing instructions to the class. It’s been this way since I was 4 weeks pregnant and not showing to now working around a baby bump!
• What does PDH provide that sets them apart from other gyms?
The programming is well thought out and always different. There isn’t one session where I’ve ever felt bored! The people are what sets it apart. Everyone is so encouraging and motivational towards each other.
• What would you say to encourage other people in your position to get started
I would encourage anyone worried by training in a gym environment while pregnant to give it a go. Provided no restrictions from your doctor and your tired body just wanting to rest (and eat), you never regret a work out.
From Coach KB
Lou is an inspiration to many at PDH, she is consistent and does her absolute best always in every session. Being pregnant has only made this more impressive. She is a role model to other future mums and we wish her and her family all the best with the new bub very soon.
