Carl Twaddle
Carl is 36 years old. In March last year (2024) he suffered a pectoral major tear detaching it from the bone on his right shoulder. He had surgery to reattach the muscle using 3 anchor points on my shoulder and sutures. The recovery time was explained to be between 6-8 months.
Now 12 months after the injury he has not only fully recovered but he is now stronger and his pec and output is greater than it was before the injury. Carl directly credits this to PDH with Karina’s tailored training and all the coach's guidance. In fact, Carls estimated 6-8 months recovery was expedited, and he was back to normal function and ability of that muscle at the 4–5-month mark.
LETS HEAR ABOUT CARL'S JOURNEY AT PDH
How long have you been training at PDH?
I have been training at PDH since April 2021 so almost 4 years now.
What process did you go through during the rehabilitation process of your injury in regards to training/exercise?
A week after the surgery I was going crazy sitting on the lounge so I contacted Karina asking if there was anything she thought I could come and do at the gym. Her answer was she would construct something for me to do so I could join in with the class and kickstart the recovery. We started implementing movement to promote blood flow boosting recovery and as the weeks went on and the recovery began to accelerate we added weights to my left side and eventually to my right (injured) side.
At the 4-5 month mark I was lifting the same that I was before the injury which drove me to continue on my journey and chase a greater goal in my strength and overall health.
How did/does PDH accommodate for and support you during the rehab phase?
PDH and its coaches invested in me and my journey. They constructed programming tailoring workouts so I could join in with the classes and my gym family. Closely monitored my movements and performance to get the best possible results.
What are your goals now with training/exercise? My goals are to continue to live a strong healthy life for my family. Continuing to build on my strengths and improve my weaknesses.
What does PDH provide that sets them apart from other gyms?
I think the biggest difference of PDH would be the systematic programming and structure of our workouts. Karina works very hard on constructing the program with intention of meeting goals and new skills.
What would you say to encourage other people in your position to continue to train during injury rehabilitation / post survey?
Don’t let the injury hold you back. PDH has proved to me that there is always something that we can do to speed up recovery. With the correct guidance sky is the limit.
From Coach KB
The discipline and commitment Carl made to his injury rehabilitation set him up to be in a stronger position mentally and physically than before his injury. This is one of the reasons why Carl was awarded 'Member of the Year', along with the fact that he is a wonderful role model for his family and peers. It's been a pleasure watching Carl go from "ticking the box", to having drive and purpose with his gym sessions. Now he's reaping the rewards with numerous strength, gymnastics and conditioning PR's.
